Next generation Wi-Fi brings outstanding dining experience at the "Icho" chain
Yorozuya Corporation operates a large-scale Japanese chain restaurant & bar in the northern Kanto region of Japan -- the "Icho" chain -- spread out over the Gunma, Saitama, Tochigi, and Nagano prefectures. Each of Icho's 40 locations is furnished elegantly with approximately 80 private rooms, and serves an impressive variety of dishes for its diners. In order to reduce wait times and improve the dining experience, Icho introduced a self-ordering system that enabled customers to place orders in their own rooms through wireless tablets. However, providing a stable Wi-Fi signal for the system was extremely challenging due to the complex physical layout in each store.
"The ordering system often became unstable at lunch time when the restaurant was crowded and the signals could not reach the further private rooms. We were soon facing complaints and bad reputation problems," recalled Toshinobu Tabei, head of Icho's IT system construction.
Icho's management team quickly made it a priority for Mr. Tabei to find a stable Wi-Fi solution that could support their challenging network environment. During a visit to the HOTERES Hotel & Restaurant Show, Mr. Tabei realized that the enterprise-grade WLAN solutions being showcased for high-density public venues in hotels could also be applied to the Icho restaurants. He approached NTT Advanced Technology (NTT-AT), 4ipnet's local partner in Japan, and after hearing the detailed solution presentation, was convinced that 4ipnet could help him resolve his current wireless network issues.
Prior to the network deployment, NTT-AT conducted a thorough site survey for each Icho location, factoring in floor plan layouts and physical obstructions that would impact the wireless connectivity. Next-Generation Wi-Fi at the Valencia Conference Centre
The Valencia Conference Centre is one of the most important congress venues in Europe. It was designed by Norman Foster and awarded the “World's Best Convention Centre” by the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC) in 2010. With a floor space of 5,900 m2 covering three auditoriums, a VIP lounge, and an exhibition area, the Valencia Conference Centre is renowned for its state-of-the-art facilities and impeccable customer services.
According to a survey conducted by the AIPC, Internet access was a primary demand of business professionals during exhibitions and conferences. Considering the increasing number of mobile devices used during these events, the management team at the venue recognized the necessity of providing a managed Wi-Fi network. However, providing wireless coverage to service more than 3,500 concurrent users spreading across 16 different areas in the premises was no easy task. To address this challenge, the Valencia Conference Centre turned to 4ipnet’s local partner, Civired & WifiSafe.
The requirements for the WLAN deployment were clarified. Coverage was the most primary concern, as there could not be any Wi-Fi dead spots across the vast floor space of the convention. Furthermore, user authentication was essential, as unauthorized access could potentially cause leaks of confidential information. Segregated virtual networks for different usage scenarios was also required to add another layer of security. Finally, given the high density of users and devices in auditoriums during events, the APs needed to be well-managed with advanced features that prevented overloading. Civired & WifiSafe’s technical expertise helped the Valencia Conference Centre realize that centralized AP and user management was a must-have for successful WLAN operation.
The proposed products included 4ipnet’s WHG711 wireless LAN controller, EAP757 concurrent dual-band access points, and SW1008 unified access switches. Civired & Wifisafe was responsible for all aspects of the deployment which was completed in September 2014.
Valencia Conference Centre was pleased with the results. Advanced AP management features on the WHG711 such as automatic AP discovery and provisioning, bulk AP configuration, and real-time status notifications simplified the deployment process. Once the APs went online, users could seamlessly roam between different APs without losing connectivity. Load balancing also prevented individual APs from being overly congested. With these functions, the Wi-Fi network was able to service thousands of simultaneous concurrent users, and the risk of potential downtime was reduced.
In addition to stable Wi-Fi connectivity, 4ipnet’s solution also allowed the conference center to provide flexible and secure user authentication through 802.1X or browser-based user authentication. After being authenticated on the network, each user could then be applied with schedule-based QoS, firewall, and routing profile according to their role. As a result, network administrators were able to prevent individual users from consuming the entire network bandwidth, ensuring that all users would receive an acceptable connection quality.
Valencia Conference Centre is a perfect example of how a public venue can successfully deploy a large-scale Wi-Fi network using 4ipnet’s solution. With high performance APs and comprehensive user and AP management features, the venue reaffirms its commitment to providing advanced facilities and services to business professionals worldwide.

Massages, Beaches & Wi-Fi at Dan Hotels
As one of Israel’s most luxurious hotel chains, Dan Hotels has received prestigious awards over the years from reputable travel sites such as Fodor’s and TripAdvisor for providing excellent service and impeccable quality to its guests. According to one guest who stayed at the Dan Hotels' Tel Aviv location, "Dan Tel Aviv can be compared to the Waldorf Astoria (although it is much smaller). It is an old classic with the finest amenities and services. The executive room with the sea view is spectacular."
Given the rapid growth of Wi-Fi enabled devices such as smartphones and tablets, and the increasing demand by tourists and business travelers to connect to the Internet at all times, Dan Hotels recognized that providing Wi-Fi was becoming a necessity rather than a luxury. From any location of the property, guests needed connectivity to check e-mails, upload photos to Facebook, or make uninterrupted Skype calls. Not only would it be difficult for traditional wired Ethernet to satisfy these requirements, but the costs incurred would also be extremely hefty. As a result, Dan Hotels management elected to deploy Wi-Fi across all fourteen of its properties.
There were a couple of obstacles that the team at Dan Hotels faced. First, unauthorized access of the wireless network needed to be prevented, in order to guarantee that outside passerbyers did not affect the network quality for the hotel's own guests. Furthermore, the bandwidth of individual users had to be controlled to ensure that individual guests did not consume the entire network bandwidth. Given the size of each of Dan Hotels' properties, the network would need to enforce these policies simultaneously for a large number of users. Finally, the hotel staff required an easy and quick method for both generating a Wi-Fi account, and communicating the account credentials to the guests.
After evaluating several vendors, Dan Hotels decided that 4ipnet HSG3200 Wireless LAN Controller with WTG (SDS200W & PRT100) Hotspot Ticketing System was best suited for overcoming these obstacles. The HSG3200 is an ideal management solution for medium-sized wireless network deployments, integrating user authentication, bandwidth management, guest Wi-Fi, and flexible accounting & billing, all in one single box. At the same time, the WTG is a printer-keypad combination that, when deployed with the HSG3200, allows account generation and printing of Wi-Fi login crendentials at the touch of a button.
After deploying the HSG3200 and WTG combination across all fourteen properties, Dan Hotels realized that 4ipnet's solution had much more to offer. Supporting multiple billing plans, the system could easily be configured to provide different levels of Wi-Fi service based on price. For example, the hotel could offer a paid, premium Wi-Fi account with larger bandwidth for guests using data-intensive applications such as video streaming. Furthermore, by utilizing role-based policies, hotel IT personnel could assign employees and guests different access rights. Lastly, the extensive logging and reporting features provided by the HSG3200 allowed the hotel to detect, record, and prevent malicious activity over its network.
With the solution provided by 4ipnet, Dan Hotels not only met their initial expectations but exceeded them, and as a result was able to satisfy the needs of both the hotel IT staff and the guests. In a time when mobility is becoming ever more pervasive, Dan Hotels continues to maintain its reputation as a top-notch luxury hotel chain in Israel by providing reliable and uninterrupted Wi-Fi access.

Excellent Beaches & WI-FI at the Evenia Olympic Resort
Ideally located near the beautiful beaches and city center of LIoret de Mar on the Costa Brava, the award winning Evenia Olympic Resort shines as an one-of-a-kind 4 star hotel complex. Covering more than 30,000 m2, including swimming pools, restaurants, bars, gardens, etc., the Evenia Olympic Resort is also a popular place for hosting various types of events. Evidently, the hotel staff is dedicated to providing their guests with the best possible quality of service. However, they perceived delivering high quality of service to be a challenge without the availability of a reliable wireless network.
Due to the vast scale of the property, the primary issues faced by the Evenia Olympic Resort were to provide sustained Wi-Fi coverage, and being able to manage access points (APs) and user access. According to the IT team, the soon to be upgraded Wi-Fi infrastructure was to meet several fundamental requirements. First, the APs needed to support fast roaming to avoid interrupted connections and repetitive user logins. Second, to manage the wireless network and minimize maintenance effort, the IT team deemed it essential to have a central platform to set up, monitor, and maintain the APs. Third, the resort wished to set up tiered user accounts – guests, VIP guests, and employees – and assign different access rights and network QoS policies based on these roles. Since there were APs from other vendors present in the existing wireless network that the hotel wanted to keep, the updated wireless network infrastructure needed to be vendor agnostic, integrating these third party APs.
After comprehensively evaluating several competing WLAN solutions, the Evenia Olympic Resort found that 4ipnet’s WLAN solution proposed by WifiSafe best fulfilled their needs. The IT team decided to deploy the WHG711 controller, which integrated “user authentication”, “policy assignment”, “traffic shaping”, and “centralized WLAN management” into one box. For the access points, the resort selected various models to fit different environments and usage scenarios. For example, the EAP260 was used in the common areas, while the EAP717 for the guest rooms. Since event hosting was one of the resort’s important services, the EAP767 was the perfect choice for the meeting rooms. The EAP767 is a three-stream 11ac AP designed to support up to 1.75 Gbps aggregate throughput and 384 concurrent clients. Furthermore, 4ipnet APs support features such as Multicast to Unicast conversion, Layer 2 Firewall, and Optimal Client Filtering, all of which ensured a smooth and uninterrupted multimedia experience. Finally, the hotel utilized the WTG ticket generator to quickly generate Wi-Fi accounts and print the credentials for the guests.
After the deployment, the resort successfully hosted numerous large-scale events, such as the TBEX EU 2015, which had over 1000 attendees. With 4ipnet’s solution, the resort was able to provide reliable Wi-Fi coverage throughout the entire resort premises, while centrally managing the entire network through a single interface. All the hotel guests and event attendees were able to enjoy high-performance and uninterrupted Wi-Fi, allowing the Evenia Olympic Resort to keep their commitment of providing excellent service for their guests.

Caribbean Holiday & Wi-Fi at Iberostar Hotels & Resorts
Founded in 1986, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts is a world-class Spanish hotel chain that operates globally and specializes in 4 and 5-star all-inclusive resorts and luxury hotels. As a validation of Iberostar’s commitment to excellence, many of its hotels have been awarded the prestigious “Travelers’ Choice” award by TripAdvisor. Iberostar’s resorts are known for their pristine beaches, impeccable services, and professionalism, providing tourists and travelers from all over the world with an unforgettable vacation experience.
In recent years, providing Wi-Fi has become a norm in the hospitality industry – a service expected not as a luxury, but as an amenity. However, faced with large numbers of concurrent users, increasing number of mobile devices per user, and increasingly bandwidth-hungry applications, many hotels quickly realized the need for user and network management. The Iberostar resorts in the Dominican Republic (Iberostar Bavaro Suite, Iberostar Dominicana, Iberostar Punta Cana, Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro, Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus, and Iberostar Costa Dorada) were confronted with the same issues, and set out to search for a feasible and cost-effective Wi-Fi solution. The fundamental requirements defined by Iberostar’s management team were detailed user authentication, role-based policy assignment, and quick account generation, all of which were aimed at addressing the deluge of smartphones, tablets, and other Wi-Fi enabled devices.
After evaluating 4ipnet’s proposed solution, Iberostar’s team found that it could fulfill all of their needs, and was very pleased with the results. They decided to deploy WHG711 Wireless LAN Controllers and HSG1250 Hotspot Gateways across the six Dominican Republic resorts, with each controller accompanied by a wireless ticket generator set that would help front desk staff quickly print account credentials for guests. At the touch of a button, tickets with login credentials and matching QR codes could be printed, allowing guests to connect to the network without the troublesome login process.
The primary issue that 4ipnet’s solution resolved was unauthorized Internet access, which was a major point of concern for Iberostar from the security and reliability standpoint. After the 4ipnet system went online, every user was required to authenticate before accessing the hotel network, regardless of being a guest or hotel staff. Users would then be applied different usage policies such as firewall rules or bandwidth limitations depending on their pre-assigned role. Finally, the hotel could limit the usage time for each guest account. The fine-grained user control and network management features helped Iberostar maintain a secure and high performance public Wi-Fi environment.
Other features found useful by Iberostar included the customizable captive portals and built-in billing plans. Customizable captive portals allowed each resort to tailor the user login pages with their own logo and visual identity. At the same time, the on-demand account billing plans allowed the hotel to monetize Wi-Fi, turning its wireless network into an additional revenue stream for increased ROI. In summary, 4ipnet’s WLAN solution not only greatly enhanced the hotel network’s security and performance, but also dramatically improved customer experience. Keeping guests happy and returning with quality Wi-Fi service was Iberostar’s primary objective, and 4ipnet’s solution helped accomplish that feat.

Modern Wi-Fi with Retro 1960's Atmosphere at Gallia Palace Hotel
Located near the beach in Punta Ala, Italy, Gallia Palace Hotel is well-known for providing a peaceful and elegant ambience, breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea, and fabulous service with attentive staff. From the baronial 1960-style architecture to the exquisite fine dining restaurants, both the guests and hotel management of this five-star establishment expect nothing less than perfect. Free and reliable Wi-Fi is no exception, and given that every traveler today carries a smartphone or tablet, providing ubiquitous Wi-Fi swiftly moved to the top of the hotel’s to-do list. Recently after completing construction of brand new building, Gallia Palace Hotel decided to upgrade its existing Wi-Fi system in order to integrate the wireless LAN of the new building with the existing infrastructure of the old one.
According to the team at Gallia Palace, there were a few primary requirements to fulfill. First, since the access points were distributed across an assemblage of 78 guest rooms over two floors, a swimming pool, two restaurants, a great park, and a private beach 700 meters away, AP monitoring needed to be centralized and simple to operate in order to reduce maintenance efforts. In addition, given that the existing wireless network contained APs from several different vendors and that the hotel did not wish to overhaul the entire infrastructure, the new solution needed to be vendor agnostic. Finally, the hotel wished to separate users into three categories: top, free, and employee, in order to offer differentiated Wi-Fi services such as bandwidth policies for users belonging to each of the assigned roles.
After thoroughly evaluating several solutions, Gallia Palace Hotel decided that 4ipnet WHG315 Wireless LAN Controller and WTG2 Hotspot Ticketing System would best fulfill their needs. The WHG315 is an optimal choice for centralized management of medium-sized wireless LANs, as it supports monitoring of up to 100 third party APs while performing role-based user authentication. In addition, the WHG315 can set up guest accounts and perform traffic shaping to enforce bandwidth and firewall policies. At the same time, the WTG2 is a keypad-based ticket printer that allows the hotel staff to quickly generate and print out account credentials at the touch of a button. Along with QR code automatic login functionality, the WTG2 makes logging in to the secure hotel Wi-Fi a walk in the park.
Gallia Palace Hotel was extremely pleased with the result of the new 4ipnet solution. “The infrastructure has been running for a couple of months without problems. There are now hundreds of customers connected at the same time and no problems have been reported,” according to the team at Gallia. In addition to the comprehensive user access control and wireless network management features offered, the hotel IT staff also found 4ipnet’s technical support staff to be a major plus, providing prompt responses from deployment assistance to maintenance and troubleshooting.
As a hotel that strives to maintain its perfect five-star service, Gallia Palace was very cautious when it came to expanding its Wi-Fi offering – wireless connectivity needed to be stable with wire-like performance in order to keep customers happy and returning. With 4ipnet’s WHG315 and WTG2, the hotel found much more than what they initially sought. “We are extremely satisfied with the system,” concluded the team at Gallia. In today's environment where travelers predominantly use mobile devices, the flexible, reliable, and easy to use 4ipnet solution came out as the top choice for Gallia Palace.

Enjoy Wi-Fi & Olives at Club Magic Life Tunisia
As two of the most popular four-star resorts in Tunisia, Club Magic Life Africana Imperial and Club Magic Life Penelope Beach Imperial are both well-known for delivering impeccable holiday experiences to couples and families. In fact, they were awarded Travelers’ Choice 2013 “Top Hotels” and “Best Service” by TripAdvisor, one of the most reputable travel websites. Every year, the two resorts are hosts to a large number of travelers from all around the world. In recent years, hotel management realized that more and more business and leisure travelers are carrying mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. This phenomenon resulted in an increased demand for stable and pervasive Wi-Fi access, leading the hotels to acknowledge the necessity of deploying wireless network infrastructure.
Both of the Club Magic Life resorts are vast properties, with Africana Imperial and Penelope Beach Imperial containing 50,000 and 120,000 square meters, respectively. Furthermore, each resort houses more than 300 guest rooms for families and couples. Thus, the team at Club Magic Life faced three primary challenges when considering Wi-Fi deployment. First, to provide uninterrupted Wi-Fi coverage in such wide area, it was necessary to deploy APs supporting fast roaming to avoid interrupted connections and repetitive logins. Second, due to the scale of the project, it was essential to set up, monitor, and maintain the APs from one central platform in order to reduce deployment time and maintenance effort. Finally, the IT teams at each hotel wished to separate guests from staff, assigning access rights and network policies based on the role of each user.
After a comprehensive evaluation of several competing solutions, Club Magic Life chose 4ipnet for both of its resorts, deploying a WHG405 to manage 100 EAP110 at each site. The WHG405 is a wireless LAN controller that enables centralized management of Layer 2 or Layer 3 APs, provides AP load balancing, and guarantees seamless roaming between APs. In addition, it authenticates Wi-Fi users, supports multiple devices per user account, and can perform traffic shaping to limit bandwidth usage. On the other hand, the EAP110 is a single radio 2.4 GHz indoor access point, supporting up to 300 Mbps data rate with wireless QoS and layer 2 firewall capabilities to ensure optimal connectivity.
Not only did the 4ipnet deployment address the Wi-Fi challenges faced by the hotel, but it also provided several advanced security features that the resorts found beneficial. For example, station isolation on the EAP110 prevents clients connected to the same AP from communicating with each other, deterring potential hackers from using the wireless network to access others' devices. Additionally, VLAN tagging segments the network and adds an additional layer of security by associating traffic from different SSIDs with different VLAN IDs. On the WHG405, extensive logs and reporting features provide a method for easily tracking and preventing malicious activity. By enabling enhanced security functions such as these, Club Magic Life was able to increase the reliability and robustness of the Internet service that it provided to its guests.
With 4ipnet’s manageable WLAN solution, Club Magic Life Africana Imperial and Club Magic Life Penelope Beach Imperial continue to ensure a fabulous vacation experience for guests, allowing them to maintain Internet connectivity while enjoying the holidays near the Mediterranean coastline. Travelers can rest assured that their beautiful Tunisian vacation photographs can be instantly shared on Facebook with their friends and family.
