Edgecore Networks, a leading provider of traditional and open network solutions for enterprises, data centers, and telecommunication service providers, is delighted to announce its collaboration with BeMap, an Edgecore partner in Tokyo, to expand campus network coverage in Hamamatsu Kaiseikan Junior & Senior High School in Japan. Equipped with MLTG-CN LR, Edgeocre Terragraph Certified 60GHz product, and EAP101, Edgecore OpenRomaing compatible wireless access point, providing campuses with a more comprehensive network connection to enhance learning efficiency.
Background & Requirements
The Hamamatsu Kaiseikan Junior & Senior High School had been considering extending the network from the school building to Arena II, a facility located about 350 meters away from the school building. The reason for this consideration was Hamamatsu Kaiseikan Junior & Senior High School has been using AI and ICT to provide efficient learning for each student with a tablet device, and the need for a communication infrastructure of the same level as the school building for Arena II, which was completed in December 2020.
In this regard, the Computer Move Co., Ltd., which was involved in providing implementation support, conducted an evaluation to address this issue. Based on the following points, they decided to deploy the Edgecore MLTG-CN LR and EAP101:
1. Stability: Demonstrated zero downtime operation in the existing environment.
2. Low Latency: Evaluated low latency performance value in the existing environment.
3. Operating Costs: Compared operating costs to other methods, including VPN lines.
4. School Facility Implementation Record: Evaluation of past performance.
5. Impact Range Due to Weather: Evaluation of the test data.
6. Management, including School Wi-Fi: Evaluation of the convenience of unified management, including the school’s Wi-Fi 6 models.
7. Other: Evaluation of compatibility with OpenRoaming authentication infrastructure.
Comprehensive Edgecore Wi-Fi Solution
The Edgecore MLTG-CN LR is a Terragraph certified client node. MLTG-CN LR supports IEEE802.11ay standard to deliver high-speed Internet in a noise-free and unlicensed 60GHz spectrum. With high-gain antenna and beamforming technology, MLTG-CN LR is suitable for long-range deployments. The range can reach up to 1 km when paired with MLTG-CN LR. And it can reach up to 700 meters when paired with MLTG-360. The MLTG-CN LR can be paired to quickly build long-range Point-to-Point (PtP) links for the backhaul or last-mile access, and deliver fiber-like multi-gigabit throughput.
Terragraph is the gigabit wireless technology by Meta Connectivity designed to meet the growing demand for reliable, high-speed internet access in markets where trenching fiber is difficult and cost-prohibitive.
BeMap is one of the first in Japan to focus on Terragraph. They began offering the MLTG-series product of high-speed, large-capacity wireless LAN systems in the 60GHz band that complies with Terragraph in October 2021. In addition, in January 2022, BeMap established Japan’s first Terragraph experimental facility, “Millimeter-Wave Lab@ Kashiwanoha,” at the outdoor robot development verification facility “KOIL MOBILITY FIELD” of Mitsui Fudosan. Moreover, BeMap has delivered Edgecore Terragraph products to many research institutions of companies, including Sapporo Gakuin University, Shibaura Institute of Technology, the University of Tokyo, Fukuoka University, Waseda University (https://www.waseda.jp/top/news/83150), and more.
The Edgecore EAP101 is an enterprise-grade, concurrent dual-band Wi-Fi 6 indoor access point. EAP101 supports 2×2:2 uplink and downlink MU-MIMO between the AP and multiple clients, with up to 1.7Gbps aggregated data rate. The EAP101 supports OpenRoaming which enables an automatic and secure Wi-Fi experience globally, and it also supports the Eduroam, an international wireless LAN roaming infrastructure that realizes mutual use of campus wireless LAN between universities and other educational and research organizations.
Both MLTG-CN LR and EAP101 are able to be centrally managed by Edgecore ecCLOUD cloud controller. Edgcore ecCLOUD provides unified visibility and control over wired and wireless devices, simplifying deployment, management, and monitoring of your single-site or multi-site network.
Summary
In the school environment, Wi-Fi issues can lead to interruptions in classes and school events, so high stability is especially important. The ability to achieve the required stability and the convenience of equipment management after introduction was highly valued.
With Edgecore MLTG-CN LR and EAP101, the Hamamatsu Kaiseikan Junior & Senior High School is able to provide stable Wi-Fi connectivity in all areas, including the school buildings, the arena building, and the Arena II building.
