The Rise of Multi-Protocol Smart Access: Edgecore Wi-Fi’s Vision for Scalable IoT Connectivity

Combining robust infrastructure with flexible, protocol-rich access solutions for the next wave of IoT applications

We’ve built the foundation. Now it’s time to build smarter—by embracing multi-protocol innovation and integrated connectivity.

The Connected World Is Growing Fast — and So Are Its Challenges

When we talk about the growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), attention often goes to sensors, edge devices, or cloud analytics. But before any of that can happen, there is a fundamental step: connectivity. And in today’s rapidly diversifying landscape, connectivity is no longer a one-size-fits-all solution.

From long-range, low-power agricultural deployments to indoor positioning, energy systems, smart locks, and real-time surveillance, IoT today demands a wide range of protocols: Wi-Fi, BLE, Wi-Fi HaLow, Zigbee, Thread, LTE, and more. The challenge is not just to connect devices, but to do so in a way that is robust, scalable, and application-ready.

Edgecore Wi-Fi anticipated this shift. Years ago, we began integrating BLE and Zigbee into our access points to give our partners early access to more versatile network possibilities. Over the past year, we’ve taken a major leap forward—launching support for Wi-Fi HaLow, enabling MQTT, integrating Matter controllers and Thread Border Routers. And that’s just the beginning. We’re also working closely with ecosystem partners from different industries to explore and adopt the most suitable protocols for our target verticals, ensuring that every piece of our platform is purpose-built for real-world IoT environments.

Building Up, Not Shifting Gears

Rooted in enterprise-grade Wi-Fi APs and switches, Edgecore Wi-Fi has always focused on delivering solid, scalable network infrastructure. We understand the complexity of deployment, the variability of environments, and the need for manageability and security. IoT is not a pivot for us. It’s an extension of what we’ve always done best.

That’s why even our foundational offerings reflect IoT-forward thinking. From the ECS1100 series of smart-managed switches tailored for entry-level deployments, to new-generation access points like EAP105, EAP112 and EAP111, every product is designed with future IoT applications in mind—whether it’s power management, form factor, environmental durability, or multi-protocol support.

A Platform for Flexible, Protocol-Rich Access

Our strategy centers on building a true multi-protocol access platform. Rather than merely stacking features, we focus on integrating technologies in a coherent, manageable, and extensible way.

EAP112 exemplifies this approach. More than a Wi-Fi 6 access point, it also supports Wi-Fi HaLow, BLE, Zigbee, Thread, LTE, and onboard services like iBeacon, Matter, and Thread Border Gateway.

Beyond hardware, we’re also enabling software-level integration. With newly added MQTT support, system integrators can now collect real-time data from Edgecore devices, monitor device states, and interface with third-party platforms for automation and analytics. This transforms each access point from a basic connector into a fully interoperable data node.

Designing for Every Smart Space

Different deployment scenarios require different tools. That’s why we design product portfolios with the diversity of real-world environments in mind:

  • EAP105, our latest Wi-Fi 7 access point, is built for high-performance indoor smart environments. It delivers ultra-low latency and multi-gigabit throughput, and comes equipped with BLE, Zigbee, and Thread —making it ideal for integrating with sensors, location beacons, and control systems in retail, office, or campus spaces.
  • EAP112 is designed for rugged outdoor smart spaces such as farms, industrial zones, and logistics hubs. It supports a broad range of protocols including Wi-Fi HaLow, BLE, Zigbee, and Thread, enabling reliable long-range and low-power connectivity.
  • EAP111 is tailored for indoor smart buildings and MDUs. With support for key IoT protocols and a compact form factor, it offers a flexible and aesthetic solution for high-density smart deployments.
  • OAP101 is optimized for outdoor surveillance and sensor networks. Its weather-resistant enclosure and long-range capabilities make it well-suited for harsh environments requiring resilient performance.

These devices are purpose-built for IoT from the ground up.

From Lab to Field: Proven Results

We recently tested the EAP112 with a Wi-Fi HaLow camera and successfully transmitted real-time video across over 500 meters of distance and through physical obstructions. This not only validated HaLow’s promise in long-range applications, but also demonstrated the reliability and performance of our access point under real-world conditions.

Looking Ahead: 2025 and Beyond

Edgecore Wi-Fi is not here to follow trends. We’re here to lead in scalable, protocol-rich IoT connectivity.

In 2025, we will launch a new wave of products that build on everything outlined above. These upcoming solutions will push deeper into multi-protocol integration, expand form factors for various environments, and introduce smart peripherals such as cameras, sensors, locks, and more—delivered under Edgecore Wi-Fi or with ecosystem partners.

This marks the beginning of a long-term strategy to empower IoT at scale. We believe every smart application deserves a smarter connection point. And we’re here to build it.
